Katrell, since you noted such a significant incongruity/shift, something must be up! Do you think Twain is making some kind of satirical/ironic statement about men vs women? Are girls nicer than boys? Boys bigger liars than girls? Or do women just naturally protect/cover/enable men? I think sometimes Twain uses these little adventures to make arguments against certain kinds of people. Sometimes I don't think Twain likes people very much. tj
