Katrell, since you noted such a significant incongruity/shift, something must be up! Do you think Twain is making some kind of satirical/ironic statement about men vs women? Are girls nicer than boys? Boys bigger liars than girls? Or do women just naturally protect/cover/enable men? I think sometimes Twain uses these little adventures to make arguments against certain kinds of people. Sometimes I don't think Twain likes people very much. tj

She continues and tells him that her husband and a friend of his are looking for Jim.Hearing this Huck began to get tense and knew he had to make a move quick.this chapter is structural and creates a shift.tells readers that there is about to be a great deal of action.

On page 62 of Huck Finn, we see that Judith Laftus is characterized as an extremly sweet lady. After discoviring that Huck wa actually a man, Judith could have easily sold him out and retreived the reward money. Although, she wanted nothing more than to help him; she even gave Huck a few pointers as to how to conduct himself if he wanted to pull his act of sometime.

  3. Katrell says-Tj i most certainly agree with you when it comes down to Twain potraying men and women. Twain depicts women in this particular section based on the way they do and go about handling certain situations. After Huck had been caught, Twain is sure to go back and tell what gave him away. Critically comparing ones action from another. i believe women have a natural enstinct to protect not so much of the men themselves but the youth.
